The Burlington Little School was founded in 1979 by Bruce Campbell, nationally-known author and proponent of the Multiple Intelligences theory, and some like-minded parents. We offer a loving, positive, creative and stimulating environment for children from preschool through third grade. Our certified teachers provide a progressive early childhood center for preschool. Primary and intermediate classes build a strong foundation in individualized language, math, reading, social studies and science through an exciting hands-on, emergenct curriculum. Frequent field trips, enrichment activities, thematic units, and an emphasis on diversity enhance the curriculum.

Our aim at BLS is to provide an atmosphere that encourages the child's maximum growth intellectually, developmentally, physically, socially, and emotionally. A low teacher-student ratio is consistently maintained. The curriculum is drawn from the needs, abilities and interests of students. Teachers introduce and practice all skills mandated by the Essential Learning Requirements of the state's Board of Education -- and more! Our approach is hands-on, child-centered, individualized and relevant to the real world. We emphasize choice, decision-making, creative problem-solving, and the arts and sciences.

Our preschool curriculum is also drawn from the needs, abilities and interests of students. The classes are multi-age (3 and 4 year olds) to provide the depth of readiness abilities needed to promote learning. Social skills are emphasized and children are supported while developing at their own rate. They are encouraged to solve problems creatively, and gradually expand their world and interests.

This approach to curriculum is one that many schools strive for, as it has been proven to be a most effective way of teaching and learning. The difference at BLS is that the small class sizes, experienced and dedicated staff, and concerned, active parents allow us to deliver this kind of outstanding educational experience on a daily basis.

Visitors to our classrooms consistently remark upon the extraordinary level of caring, creativity, and engaged learning they observe. We invite you to set up an appointment for an observation at the school to see this exciting learning environment in action.
